Taoshi’s celebrates simple, well-made pottery for everyday life. The husband and wife team have a kiln in their Taipei home, as well as a small tea room, and craft everything from kitchen wares to large-scale public murals. Truly, they are a treasure to their community. Bored with the rote conventional forms and colors of most handmade ceramics, Taoshi studied glaze and textures, finding ways to uninvent the classics with different lines and alternate forms. The pieces interface with the meaning inherent in media as well as the interplay of memory and texture, particularly how senses are heightened when using a teapot, plate, or cup that was made with care.
